Spring Spectacular So Far! (And What's Coming)

April 29 2025

We have been having a blast ringing in this Spring season with Spring Spectacular! We’re so grateful to all of those who have attended or hosted events and helped the Tacony CDC to provide the neighborhood with fun family activities for all!

Starting off strong, April First Friday took place at the Tacony LAB Community Art Center! Artists from all over Northeast Philadelphia had their art displayed for this community art show. Attendees also received free refreshments from the Tacony CDC while perusing the creative art they had the chance to purchase! Thank you to the Tacony LAB for yet another great First Friday—showcasing art and community was a wonderful start to Spring Spectacular!

Although it was rainy, our Neighborhood Clean Up event helped Tacony shine! Thank you to the volunteers who came out to dedicate your time to cleaning up the neighborhood, The Mural Arts Tacony LAB Community Arts Center for hosting our equipment, and to our partners for this event: Councilmember Driscoll, Representative Hohenstein, Representative Gallagher, and Senator Picozzi!

Our Lady of Consolation Church led a successful week-long Palm celebration! Throughout the week parishioners and community members gathered at OLC to make palm for the Easter, Palm Sunday holiday. The Church sold the pieces made by their attendees at the end of the week. OLC also provided refreshments paid for by the Tacony CDC during Palm Week for those who had a hand in helping them create the beautiful pieces! Thank you to OLC for giving our Tacony community a place to gather and help out one of our staple churches in the neighborhood! OLC also hosted a Good Friday Street Procession in both English and Spanish to help celebrate Easter!

Next up, the Tacony Library hosted an Eid Mubarak Party to celebrate the end of Ramadan! This event was open to all ages and religions to enjoy a feast of cultural snacks picked up by Tacony Library and Tacony CDC staff. The library also hosted the next Spring Spectacular event, Reptiles Rock. The Center for Aquatic Sciences came out to the neighborhood to teach kids the fun and cool facts about reptiles! Thank you to the Tacony Library and the Center for Aquatic Sciences for engaging our community with one another through food and learning!

Story Time and Movie with Charlie the Bunny was a blast! Hosted at Holy Innocents St. Paul's Episcopal Church, families and their kids took part in a story time with Charlie the Bunny, an egg hunt, and ended the night with a screening of Peter Rabbit! Attendees enjoyed free refreshments from Councilmember Driscoll as well! Thank you Holy Innocents for hosting this event in your space, it was a great day for all!

Haven’t made it to an event yet? No worries! There is still time to take part in Spring Spectacular during our May activities at the Floral Bouquet Making on May 6, or at Clean Up and Yoga in the Park on May 12! Check out Tacony Spring Spectacular for more information!
